Baja California’s state capital is a very prominent and busy city with a lot of business activity. It has many industrial areas and the valley has plenty of agricultural developments, amidst being located in the desert.

Mexicali has every service a major city needs, as well as sports and cultural activities. It doesn’t matter if you are only here for a few days or staying for a longer season, Mexicali has all everything it takes to host different kind of visitors.

For centuries, the Colorado River fertilized these lands, which would eventually become one of the most important cotton hubs in the world. Americans, Chinese, Mexicans, East Indians, and Japanese were so involved in productive endeavors that they forgot to formally found the city. Combining the words “Mexico” and “California”, they came upon the name Mexicali. Years later, the date March 14, 1903 was established as the official date of Mexicalisfounding.

Even though Mexicali is located in the middle of a desert, irrigation systems enabled it to produce agricultural products, and Mexicali became a well known cotton-producing area. Also, assembly-line factories were established here, creating jobs for thousands of people. The tourism industry is also prominent, as San Felipe beaches are within the municipality, hosting national and international tourism year-long.

Thousands of visitors arrive annually in this border city for a variety of reasons.  Whether for business, family, pleasure or the Mexicali La Tierra Cachanilla tourism, visitors enjoy natural attractions and a wide range of services and quality products.  In addition to possessing Mexico’s most exquisite and recognized Chinese food, Mexicali is a peaceful border city, where locals offer a friendly air of cordialness to their visitors and where visitors can find important artistic, cultural and entertainment sites both day and night.  Mexicali’s surrounding areas possess diverse natural beauty such as:  Lake Bogard, the Hardy River, El Caimán, la Ciénaga de Santa Clara, the beaches of San Felipe, Lake Salada, the Rocks of La Rumorosa, la Sierra de Juárez, Vallecitos and places such as Roca Consag, Barco Hundido, Los Carros, Punta Estrella or Percebú, places where recreational and leisure activities are plentiful for those of all ages and tastes, including golf, hunting, fishing, camping, off-road automobile racing, motorcycling, motor cross, cycling, etc.  It is important to note that the best dates to enjoy Mexicali are between February and May and September to November, as the average summer temperature is 55oC, while in winter, temperatures can fall to -5oC.
