Ahome has an area of 4,342.89 square km being the 7.5% of the Sinaloa territory. Its shores are surrounded by the Cortes Sea and visited by hundreds of migrant birds.
Ahome means “Converged waters” this name was given because of the merger of salted water from the Cortes Sea and the sweet water from the Fuerte River. In this area there is a lot of cultural heritage from the groups like Tehuecos, Ahomes and Zuaques.
The City of Los Mochis is the capital of municipal government, the city is escorted by the famous “Memory Mountain”, Ahome is without a doubt an interesting and beautiful place with beautiful beaches among which is “El Maviri” located just 6 kms ahead of Topolobampo’s port. At Maviri you can taste delicious fresh shellfish dishes and bathe in the calm water. On the road to “El Maviri” there is a singular place internationally known as the “La Cueva de los Murciélagos” where, at sunset, hundreds of bats come out from the caves, providing a beautiful spectacle not commonly seen.
